Residence and Work Permits

To obtain a residence of work permit, or in other situations as study or family reunion, where your stay in the Netherlands is exceeding 90 days, you are required to apply for a 'Temporary Entry Permit" (MVV = Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf).
During the MVV application procedure in the Netherlands, the relevant authorities will determine whether you meet the appropriate requirements.
The decision on the application should be awaited in the country where the application was submitted.

You must apply for the MVV at the Dutch Embassy or Consulate in your country of origin or residence.

Australian residents are exempt from applying for a MVV.

However, they must make the application in the Netherlands and report to the foreign police within 3 days of arrival.

Work permits must be applied for by the employer in the Netherlands. In general the employer must show proof that he cannot fill the position with employees from the Netherlands or other countries within the EU, before he can offer the position to a non-EU country citizen. Also the referent in the Netherlands may apply for the MVV on behalf of the person concerned.
